The Alex Salmond Show features the deadly race between the vaccination program and the rampant coronavirus. Dr Chris Smith, the Cambridge virologist who was one of the first to warn of the global pandemic, argues that the surge in UK Covid cases is not fully explained by the emergence of new virus variants but believes that the vaccination program will get to grips with the pandemic over the course of the year. However, Dr Bharat Pankhania of Exeter University says that the shortcomings of public health measures and infection control are largely responsible for the heavy death toll across the four UK nations.
