Russian soldiers leave Georgia

Russian peacekeepers are dismantling more of their checkpoints on the Georgian side of the security zone on the Georgian-South Ossetian border. Moscow has promised to complete the withdrawal by the October 10 as part of the Sarkozy-Medvedev plan agreed by

They include the post in Nadarbazevi, about 50 kilometres north-west of the capital Tbilisi.

The peacekeepers have apparently been seen taking down their flags and loading military equipment into trucks.

Russian forces on the Georgian side of the buffer zone are set to be replaced by European monitors.
