Medvedev praises media, but wants higher standards

President-elect Dmitry Medvedev says that the Russian mass media is developing steadily and meeting the requirements of society. He made the statement during a meeting with journalists from the popular Argumenty i Fakty newspaper.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Argumenty i Fakty has become one of the most popular newspapers in the country. It has a weekly readership of almost ten million people.

Dmitry Medvedev also called on the Russian media to improve standards and be responsible in its reporting.

While answering questions from journalists, Medvedev shared his views on Russian television.

“In terms of quality and production, our television is among the best in the world and, to my mind, it is worth watching,” he said.
