Trump ‘will continue to ratchet up pressure’ on Iran, Pompeo tells Senate committee

President Donald Trump will continue to put pressure on Iran, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday. He declined to comment further on the possibility of waivers for countries that import Iranian oil, Reuters said. Pompeo told a US Senate committee that he had “no announcements” on waivers, particularly in an unclassified setting. “I can assure the rest of the world that President Trump will continue to ratchet up the pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran so that their behavior will change,” Pompeo said. On Monday, Trump said he would name Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization.
