Moscow urges US, others to ‘stop manipulating topic of chemical weapons in Syria’
The Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday urged world powers to stop manipulating the issue of chemical weapons to put pressure on the Syrian government. On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the gas attack in Eastern Ghouta, the US, Britain and France had earlier released a statement calling on supporters of Syrian President Bashar Assad to use their influence to stop the uncontrolled use of chemical weapons in the world. “We call on the pseudo-protectors of the interests of the people of Syria and ‘the like-minded persons’ who follow their destructive course to stop manipulating ‘the chemical theme’ to put pressure on Damascus and its allies,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said. It added that what is happening around the Syrian “chemical dossier,” which was “inspired by Western countries,” is linked to their desire to realize their own geopolitical ambitions in the Middle East.
