S. Korea, Japan brace for winds, heavy rains from 2 typhoons

Approaching Typhoon Soulik has caused strong winds and heavy rains in southern South Korea, forcing many flight cancelations and school closures. The weather agency says that the typhoon was moving north at a speed of 4kph off the southern island of Jeju at around noon on Thursday. The typhoon is expected to cause very strong winds and heavy rainfall across all of South Korea on Friday. President Moon Jae-in has instructed officials to make special efforts to minimize the damage expected from the typhoon, AP reports. Another typhoon called Cimarron is expected to cross western Japan on Thursday night, and the country’s weather agency has warned of gusts, high waves and heavy rain. The second typhoon is not likely to affect the Korean Peninsula.
