Indian PM Modi pledges funds as death toll climbs in worst floods in a century in south Indian state

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced additional drought relief funds of  50,000 rupiah to assist those trapped in the southern state of Kerala. Over 192 have been killed in the natural disaster, and more than 314,000 have been relocated to relief camps, while many are still trapped on the rooftops. Modi made the announcement after making an aerial assessment over the worst affected sites in the Kerala region and after consulting with the state. Air, rail and road transport has been strongly affected by the deluge, which prompted a humanitarian crisis and caused severe shortage of safe drinking water as treatment plants were submerged by floodwaters.
