Published 9 Jul, 2018 11:14

More than 100 people have been killed in heavy floods and landslides caused by record-breaking torrential rain in western Japan, Kyodo news and the NHK broadcaster reported. The freak weather destroyed homes and displaced tens of thousands of people. The hardest-hit area is Hiroshima Prefecture where at least 44 people were reported dead. Among the casualties is a three-year-old girl whose body was discovered in the city of Fukuyama after she was washed away from her home.
