Death toll from blast in Kandahar rises to 16, with 38 wounded – Afghan officials

The death toll from Tuesday’s blast in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar has risen to at least 16 people, officials said, adding that 38 were wounded. There was no immediate claim of responsibility after a minibus packed with explosives blew up near one of the city’s main markets as fighting continued across the country during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The NDS intelligence service said the minibus was discovered in a large open yard of mechanics workshops but blew up before it could be defused, Reuters reports.
