2 US Navy Poseidon aircraft join search for missing Argentine submarine
Two US Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft have joined the search for the Argentine submarine, ARA ‘San Juan’, which has been missing since November 15 along with its 44 crew members, AFP reported. Searchers battled gale-force South Atlantic winds on Sunday. The US Navy’s Undersea Rescue Command sent a ship from Chubut’s port Comodoro Rivadavia on Sunday, outfitted with a remotely operated mini-sub, Reuters reports. On Friday, a Russian plane arrived in Argentina carrying search equipment capable of reaching 6,000 meters below the sea surface. The international search effort includes around 30 ships and planes manned by 4,000 personnel from 13 countries.
