UN to vote on new Iran sanctions
The UN Security Council has met to discuss a draft resolution which could see a third round of sanctions placed on Iran because of its nuclear programme. A vote on the resolution is expected Saturday.
The resolution could be put in place because of Iran’s failure to comply with the previous two.
Russia’s Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin says the new resolution would protect Iran's ability to run a peaceful nuclear programme and deals with non-proliferation issues only.
“Our hope is that Iran will find it possible to make a step also in the direction of the international community,” he said.
