Ukraine politics: deadline approches
The deadline for Ukraine’s parliament to form a new government will be reached on Monday night, as the Rada convenes for a special session.
From July 25, President Viktor Yushchenko has the right to dissolve parliament and call a new election.Yushchenko also has 15 days to decide on whether to appoint his long-standing political rival, Viktor Yanukovich, as prime minister. The parliamentary coalition nominated him for this post last week. Yushchenko said on Saturday he would take the decision by the constitutional deadline, but gave no details.
