Top Chechen militant killed in Grozny
A top Chechen militant has been killed during a special operation in the Republic's capital, Grozny. Rustam Basaev was a top lieutenant of Doku Umarov from Chechnya's separatist movement.
The police surrounded a house in the centre of Grozny, and exchanged fire with members of his gang, holed-up inside.
Rustam Basaev is suspected of killing at least five policemen in Chechnya in recent days.
The police operation continues.
