According to Russia's Federal Migration service, up to 5 MLN citizens of the former Soviet Union want to return to Russia, under the “Compatriots return” programme. It was launched a year ago to attract those who became citizens of foreign sta

The ups and downs of Russian history have scattered people all over the world and there are now some 30 MLN Russians living abroad.

The “Compatriots return” programme enables a person to get a legal status in the short term, temporary registration within a week, and citizenship within six months.

Kaliningrad was the first region to welcome participants.
