One of Russia’s most wanted Chechen militants killed

On Monday a special operation in the southern republic of Dagestan killed a leading militant. According to federal security services, he was planning terrorist attacks in the neighboring republic of Chechnya.

Salambek Akhmadov, dubbed the “Emir of Grozny,” was on Russia's most wanted list.

During the special operation, the man resisted arrest, opened fire and was killed in the gunfight. One security officer was wounded.

According to the Head of the Chechen Republic, the militant was guilty of a number of serious crimes, including attempts on the lives of police officers.

According to the Russian Security Service, since autumn of last year Akhmadov had been hiding in the capital of Russia's republic of Dagestan, and was planning to come back to the neighboring Chechen republic to stage a number of terrorist attacks.
