Russia's next president - still a puzzle

Speaking to Russian news agencies, Presidential Advisor Igor Shuvalov mentioned two “active” potential candidates for the March 2008 elections and hinted that later this year one more person may join the race.

The remarks from Mr Shuvalov added to the air of mystery surrounding the identity of the likely future president.

Several people have been identified by the media as potential successors. But who exactly will get Vladimir Putin's support will become known only after the election campaign kicks off in December.
