Russian and Ukrainian vessels detained by Georgian authorities

Russian and Ukrainian vessels detained by Georgian authorities

Georgian frontier guards have detained two fishing boats not far from the Abkhazian seashore. The Georgian authorities are accusing the captains of Russian and Ukrainian vessels of poaching in the country's waters.

The Georgian police say they discovered 6 tonnes of fish onboard the Russian boat and claim it was caught illegally.

However, the Georgian breakaway republic of Abkhazia claims both vessels were fishing in its own waters and that Georgia did not have the right to detain them.
