Port ablaze as Israel hits Beirut

Israel stepped up attacks on Lebanon and Gaza a day after Hezbollah rockets killed eight in the city of Haifa.

Early morning Israeli missile strikes hit southern Beirut suburbs, setting the city's port ablaze andkilling at least 14, including nine soldiers. Raids followed close on Israeli military claims of another Hezbollah rocket landing south of Haifa. In Gaza, Israel struck a Hamas office and flattened the Palestinian foreign ministry in Gaza city. No-one was in the building at the time but rescue workers said five were injured in houses nearby.
