Organizer of Ingush presidential assassination attempt arrested

The FSB has caught the man who was allegedly behind the unsuccessful attempt on the life of the president of Ingushetia. RT presents the police footage.

He was arrested following an operation on Wednesday.

The man identified as Ali Taziev, also known by the nickname “Magas”, was the mastermind behind a number of crimes in Southern Russia, head of the FSB Aleksandr Bortnikov reported to president Dmitry Medvedev.

Among other crimes, he had a hand in kidnapping relatives of the former Ingush President Murat Zyazikov, and in organizing the roadside bomb attack which almost killed his successor, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov. He also organized bombings of a police station in the city of Nazran in 2009.

“The detention of Magas, I believe, will be of great use in terms of stabilizing the situation. Catching him alive as opposed to killing him means we will get a lot of intelligence on bandits’ actions. He is a valuable source,” Ingush President Yevkurov commented on the news for Interfax.

“He should be given life in jail, so that he can spend the rest of his life praying, praying and praying for absolution. Although nobody would be there to hear his prayer. He and his accomplices have earned a place in hell,” the official added.

Magas had been on the wanted list since 2004.

In light of the news the Russian President suggested awarding officers and soldiers who performed the arrest.
