Militant leader killed in Russia's south
A leader of an armed criminal group has been killed in the Khasavyurt district of Russia’s Dagestan republic during a special police operation. One of his alleged allies has also been detained.
The killed leader, Ismail Yangizbiev, had been on the Federal Wanted list for several years for committing grave crimes, including assassinations of police officers and terror acts.
According to a spokesperson of Dagestan’s Interior Ministry, the detained man made an unsuccessful attempt to drive Yangizbiev out of the cordoned area.
The operation aimed at catching his other possible allies is now underway.
