Hundreds killed in Nigeria

More than 500 people have been killed after pipeline carrying petroleum products exploded in Nigeria's biggest city of Lagos. The exact number of victims remains uncertain.

According to the Red Cross, the pipeline in a busy suburb of the city had been broken open by thieves overnight. Hundreds of people had then gathered to scoop up the fuel flowing from the pipeline, when it exploded.
