High seas ordeal ends for Lehmann Timber

After almost two months of misfortune a German cargo vessel, which had been held by pirates and then stranded with a broken engine, has arrived into a port in Oman.

The Lehmann Timber, with 15 crew members, was held captive for more than a month off the coast of Somalia.

Early this month they were released for a reported $US 750,000 ransom.

But on their way back the ship’s engine failed and was drifting at sea for several days as supplies ran out.

The vessel was taken in tow and headed for the safe port of Oman.
