Former Kyrgyz President’s daughter detained
The daughter of Kyrgyzstan's former President, Askar Akayev, has been put under house arrest in the capital Bishkek. Bermet Akayeva is believed to be behind recent public disorder in a Kyrgyz province.
She was banned from running in regional parliamentary election last month, which resulted in mass protests. Bermet Akayeva has been formally charged with obstruction of justice, and may face up to two years in prison if found guilty. She denies any involvement and says the case is politically motivated.
