Draft resolution to be discussed at the UN

The Russian Ambassador at the United Nations has circulated a draft resolution calling for a three-day, humanitarian ceasefire.

But no agreement was reached on the final wording of a U.S.-France draft, calling for an end to the fighting. Diplomats reported there had been some progress at a UN Security Council meeting but said differences of opinion still remained. Israel has put plans for a deeper ground assault into Southern Lebanon on hold, to give diplomatic efforts a chance.
