District Council’s Head killed in Moscow

The Head of Cheryomushky District Council in south western Moscow, Sergey Burkotov, has been shot dead. Police believe the shooting could be related to Burkotov's professional activities.

Sergei Burkotov was on his way to his country house outside the capital when his car came under automatic fire which also killed his driver.

Mr Burkotov is known to have had several disagreements with property developers working in his borough, since being appointed in 2004.
