Button to top the grid in Monaco

Button to top the grid in Monaco

F-1 championship leader Jenson Button has won his 4th pole position of the season in Monaco, beating the time of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen at the very end of the session.

It took the Brawn GP pilot 1 minute and 14.902 seconds to accomplish the 3.340 km circuit. Raikkonen’s time was 1m 14.927s.

Button’s teammate Rubens Barrichello, who was celebrating his 37th birthday, was third with 1m 15.077s. Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel will accompany him in the second row.

Another Ferrari pilot Felipe Massa showed the fifth time of the day – 1m 15.437s.

Nico Rosberg from Williams (1m 15.455s), and he was followed by McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen (1m 15.516s) and Mark Webber in the second Red Bull (1m 15.653s), Renault's Fernando Alonso (1m 16.009s) and Williams' Kazuki (1m 17.344s).

And it was another bad day for defending champion Lewis Hamilton, who will start from the16th position on the grid after hitting a wall in Q1.

Monaco Grand prix is the 6th stage in the 2009 Formula 1 season. Jenson Button remains a comfortable leader in the drivers’ championship. He has points 41 after having won four races out of five this season.

And considering the fact that Barrichello is second in the table, Brawn GP is the clear favorite to triumph in the teams’ competition.
