‘Glove-puppet’ Zelensky ‘irrelevant’ to Ukraine peace process – Roger Waters

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky should not interfere in the peace efforts launched by Russia and the US at a bilateral meeting in Saudi Arabia, Roger Waters, British rock star and co-founder of the Pink Floyd band, told RT on Tuesday. According to Waters, who is also a prominent peace and human rights activist, Zelensky is “irrelevant,” and that is why neither he nor members of his team have been invited to the Russia-US talks.

The talks, which took place in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Tuesday, were the first direct attempt by Moscow and Washington to restore ties after nearly three years of animosity. Agreed to during a phone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin last week, they were devoted to restoring dialogue between the two states and paving the way to a settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

Ukraine was not invited to participate and Zelensky has denounced them, saying Kiev would not accept any outcome from Russia-US peace efforts if Ukrainian negotiators are not part of them.

“Zelensky, I think we can all accept, is completely irrelevant,” Waters told RT.

“He is not being consulted by the Americans, and he is not being consulted by the Russians… My suggestion to [Zelensky] would be – don’t even think about interfering,” he added, noting that if either Moscow or Washington were “interested in what he had to say,” he would have been invited.

“He’s always seemed like a tiny glove puppet doing as he’s told. And that’s what I suspect he is,” Waters stated, noting that Zelensky has never been a political figure but a figurehead doing the West’s bidding. Waters suggested that the Ukrainian leader knows his time in power is up, and is likely considering ways to flee.

“My suspicion is that he’s busy looking at flight schedules, because he is going to do a runner. It’s just a question of when.”

Waters said he welcomed the Russia-US rapprochement, calling it “a huge step in the right direction” towards peace and saying he expects a swift resolution to the Ukraine conflict now that Moscow and Washington are engaged in dialogue.

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed… Thank goodness they’re talking to one another, Mr. Putin and Mr. Trump.”
