Man detained after holding woman hostage at Dutch radio station – media

Dutch police have detained a man who held a woman hostage at knife point for about 90 minutes at a media building in Hilversum, according to local media reports.

The incident happened at the Media Park building, where several Dutch media companies have offices and studios.

On Thursday morning, there was reportedly an altercation outside the building. Shortly afterwards police arrived and cordoned off the building. They soon confirmed that there was a hostage situation in the building, but it was successfully resolved through negotiation, Dutch news agency ANP reports.

Dutch broadcaster NPS said the woman was freed and then examined by medics, who confirmed that she had not been harmed.

The report said that police found a bag and a knife 50 meters from the building.
Initial reports indicated that the hostage situation happened at 3FM radio station, which continued broadcasting without disruption throughout the incident.

The Media Park building was also the scene of the 2002 assassination of politician Pim Fortuyn, who was gunned down in the parking lot after being interviewed at 3FM.
