‘Spirit of the Elbe’: Recalling the day Soviet and US troops met in Germany

April 25, 1945 was just days before the final downfall of the Nazis and the end of the World War II in Europe. It’s commemorated each year internationally as Elbe Day, the day when Soviet and US troops met on the River Elbe in Torgau, Germany, as they closed in from East and West on Hitler’s regime.
