An EasyJet plane headed for Alicante from Southend in southeast England has had to make an emergency landing at London’s Gatwick Airport after a medical emergency on board.

Flight U27415 had just taken off from Southend, a town in Essex, when it was diverted to Gatwick due to a medical emergency. It is unclear at present what medical emergency occurred on board the aircraft.

The plane had almost reached the French mainland, after crossing the English Channel, before it was told to land at Gatwick, the UK’s second-busiest airport.
