Putin warns: rouble strength worries producers

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the rouble’s strength was causing problems for Russian manufacturers as consumers chose cheaper imports over domestic goods.

The currency has risen nearly seven per cent against the dollar since the start of the year. Contrasting comment from Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev confused some analysts about Russia’s official rouble policy.
