The EU and China have opened talks on a new economic and trade agreement in Beijing. An arms embargo against China and the country’s trading status are the key issues to be discussed.
The EU commissioner for external relations, who is in Beijing, says the union has not changed conditions for lifting the embargo. It was imposed back in 1989 in protest at a crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators and has affected relations between China and the EU for years.
