Detroit car show turns green

The detroit car show is under way in the U.S. and hybrids, advanced diesels and green alternatives have pushed aside the traditional displays of speed, chrome and power.

Only weeks after tough fuel-efficiency requirements were approved in the U.S., motor companies are showcasing a new range of cars that put efficiency first.

At this year's show automakers collectively unveiled nine new hybrid models, including SUVs and pickups, which are new to the category.
