RT IN THE MEDIA EXCELLENCE AWARDS FINAL

MOSCOW, 7 NOVEMBER 2011 – RT, the 24/7 global news network broadcasting from Moscow and Washington, has been selected as a finalist at the AIB International Media Excellence Awards 2011 which recognizes international broadcasting industry excellence.

RT’s On the Money, hosted by Peter Lavelle, is nominated in Best Financial or Business Program alongside CBS and France 24 productions. The AIB jury comprises respected international TV and radio industry figures, among them RT’s Deputy Chief Editor Aleksey Nikolov, who will be co-judging Best Cross Media Production and Best Investigative Documentary categories. In 2007 RT was the first Russian TV channel to take part in the AIB Media Excellence Awards. RT correspondent Aleksey Yaroshevsky’s Anniversary of the Chernobyl Tragedy reporting won the News Coverage Special Jury Prize. RT was launched in 2005, and broadcasts news round the clock in English, Arabic and Spanish from studios in Moscow and Washington to more than 100 countries, reaching over 430 million viewers. RT is the first news channel worldwide to have received over half a billion views on YouTube and is a YouTube Top100 partner. RT is online at RT.COM. In 2010, RT became the first Russian channel nominated for a prestigious International Emmy Award presented by The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in the News category. The AIB International Media Excellence Awards were inaugurated in 2005 and are held annually by the Association for International Broadcasting*. This year winners will be announced in 19 categories.
