RT AUDIENCE IN US DOUBLED IN A YEAR

MOSCOW, JULY 15, 2014 – RT’s weekly audience in seven of the largest US cities has doubled, a Nielsen survey says*. Residents of Washington, DC, New York and other American cities prefer RT to other international TV channels, such as Euronews, Deutsche Welle and France 24.

Nielsen conducted its study on international TV channels’ audiences in seven major US urban areas: Washington, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Diego. According to the study, almost 3 mln people in these cities tune in to RT every week. Moreover, RT has enjoyed the highest rate of increase in weekly audience reach among all surveyed channels, staying ahead of CNN International, BBC World News, Al Jazeera, America and Euronews in that metric.

According to Nielsen research, a typical US RT viewer is a well-educated male aged 35-54. Nearly 25 percent of RT viewers hold a masters or doctoral degree, or have some graduate education. The majority of RT viewers are made up of business owners, independent entrepreneurs, managers and state employees.

Nielsen conducted its research from May 2013 to March 2014, surveying respondents in each of the seven US cities. Nielsen studies consumers in more than 100 countries; it’s one of the leading media research companies in the world and the main source of TV ratings measurement information in the US.
