RT PREMIERE: ‘LOVING PABLO, HATING ESCOBAR’ AUTHOR VIRGINIA VALLEJO EXPLORES THE REAL MIAMI

MOSCOW, APRIL 30, 2019 – In the premiere of RT Spanish’s new show “USA: Dreams and Nightmares” (EE.UU: Sueños y pesadillas. Por Virginia Vallejo), the famous Colombian journalist, actress, and author of the book “Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar”, Virginia Vallejo, alongside her co-host, RT correspondent Nicolás Sánchez O’Donovan, travel to Miami to dispel the myths and stereotypes of the “unofficial capital” of Latin America.

On the first episode of “USA: Dreams and Nightmares”, Colombian TV star Virginia Vallejo and RT correspondent Nicolás Sánchez O’Donovan attempt to uncover the “real” Miami behind the seemingly endless beaches and parties. While exploring the neighborhoods of both the rich and the poor, they talk to everyday Americans and Cuban immigrants in attempt to reveal the reality of life in Latin America’s unofficial capital.

In the next episode, Virginia Vallejo will sit down with lsabel Allende, one of the most famous and widely read Latin American authors, whose work includes the popular novels “The House of Spirits” and “City of Beasts”.

Virginia Vallejo, who was romantically involved with the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar, has been living in the US since 2006. Vallejo was granted political asylum in 2010 after she testified against drug lords with ties to the families of top Colombian politicians.

Virginia’s memoir, ‘Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar’, based on her relationship with Pablo Escobar, became a bestseller in Latin America and was translated into 15 languages. A 2017 film adaptation called ‘Loving Pablo’, starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, was screened out of competition in the 74th Venice International Film Festival. Virginia Vallejo also became the prototype for one of the main characters of Narcos, a Netflix show following the struggle to take down Latin American drug cartels.

The first episode of ‘EE.UU.: Sueños y pesadillas. Por Virginia Vallejo’ airs on RT Spanish April 30.
