Black metal artist unwittingly elected to Norwegian town council

A Norwegian heavy metal “legend” has been forced to serve his local council for the next two years after a joke campaign saw him actually elected into office: “My campaign was a picture of me holding my cat saying, ‘please don’t vote for me.,’” he said.

Gylve “Fenriz” Nagell, better known for his role in the band Darkthrone, agreed to run in the election to make up numbers for the council’s “backup list”, but never anticipated that he would be successful.

“They called and asked if I wanted to be on the list [of backup representatives],” explained Fenriz to Clrvynt.

“I said yeah, thinking I would be like 18th on the list and I wouldn’t really have to do anything. They just need a list to be able to … well, it’s hard to talk local politics in another language.”

It seems the cat (who’s name is roughly translated to Peanut Butter) was enough to entice voters and now Nagell is required to fill the role for two years before he is allowed to step down.

“I wasn’t too pleased, and I’m not too pleased about it. It’s boring. There’s not a lot of money in that, either, I can tell you!,” said the new Councilman.

“Basically, I have to step in when the usual people who go to the big meetings are sick or something. Then I have to go sit there and feel stupid among the straight people.”
