A dog has been rescued from the rubble resulting from Italy’s 6.2 magnitude earthquake, a whole nine days after it struck.

The golden retriever named Romeo was found by rescuers on Friday, just outside Amatrice in central Italy, after he was heard barking in response to his owners’ frantic calls. His barks led rescuers to his location where he had been stuck for nine whole days.

Romeo was helped out of the debris and surprisingly looked fine, considering that he had spent more than a week buried in rubble.

After a full body shake to get rid of some of the dust on his fur, he trotted around in a circle, appearing to have escaped the rubble unharmed.

The earthquake killed an estimated 284 people and was felt across central Italy.
