A group of Buddhist monks have lived up to their kind-hearted reputation by buying eight boxes of live lobsters and releasing them back into the wild.
Members of the Great Enlightenment Buddhist Institute Society (GEBIS), a monastic educational organization based on Prince Edward Island off mainland Canada, reportedly visited shops around the isle renowned for its enthusiasm for seafood to buy up heaps of lobsters.
According to CBC News, the holy men diverted 600 pounds of lobster from certain boiling-water death by extinction and into the relative safety of the North Atlantic Ocean.
The group even held a special prayer service before liberating the shellfish, who will hope to avoid local fishermen in the future.
“This whole purpose for us is to cultivate this compassion toward others. It doesn’t have to be lobsters, it can be worms, flies, any animals,” monk Venerable Dan told CBC News.
