The award recognizes achievements in promoting Russian-American cultural ties, and since 1999, has been granted to celebrated poets, writers and musicians from both countries.

Named “World’s Best Dancer” by the Paris Dance Academy back in 1964, the outstanding Russian choreographer, Vasilyev, will receive the “Liberty Award” at Mikhail Baryshnikov’s Arts Center in New York.

“A living legend of ballet”, the 70-year-old Russian star is especially popular in America, where members of the “Liberty Award” jury describe him as a “virtuoso of the 20th Century.”
