Religious persecution rears its head in American schools. A student has been suspended in the United States for practicing his Pastafarian faith by dressing as a pirate.

Bryan Killian claimed his rights were being violated. As a follower of Pastafarianism it is imperative he dress in full pirate regalia, reported the Metro.Pastafariansism, also known as the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, worships a God made of spaghetti and meatballs who created the world by the touch of his noodles. In the faith pirates are divine beings and their worldwide decline is to blame for global warming, among other things. The faith gained popular attention when the debate over intelligent design and creationism sparked recently in American schools. Activists in the Pastafarian faith demanded equal time be given to the teachings of the Flying Spaghetti Monster as was given to Darwin’s evolution and creationism. The North Carolina school contends however that the pirate attire was disruptive to the learning process and claims the day long suspension has nothing to do with religion.
