Russia and the US have seen some discord in recent years, but as ties are being reset the situation is changing. The new START treaty signaled a joint willingness to work towards a world without nuclear weapons.

Speaking about the proposal made by the NATO Secretary General to Russia to cooperate in building a joint anti-missile defense shield in Europe, former US ambassador to Russia Thomas Pickering told RT that bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington will only benefit from such cooperation.

“Any element of cooperation particularly on strategic issues – if it can be worked out satisfactorily – becomes a win-win for both sides. And it adds strength to the relationship,” Mr. Pickering said.
