Obama and Medvedev START talking

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and US President Barack Obama talked by phone about key political issues, including Afghanistan and START. Obama also expressed his condolences on the deadly train crash.

The situation in Afghanistan was among the topics discussed. The two Presidents have agreed on further cooperation in the region in order to provide stability in the country.

The two leaders have also discussed the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. The old START expires on December 5 and the Presidents agreed to sign the new document by the end of the month. The agreement will see a reduction of both countries’ nuclear arsenals.
