A US advocacy group, Voter Action, has asked the Justice Department in Washington to undo the sale of a company which makes voting machines.
Voter Action says the sale to a larger competitor would create a monopoly which may affect US election results.
The organization is a nationwide group working to protect the integrity of elections across the US. According to Voter Action, a monopoly company providing voting equipment denigrates the democratic process.
John Bonifaz, the legal director of Voter Action, said that there have been rising calls for the government to not allow this transaction.
“To have this kind of monopoly power take over an industry is a violation, in our view, of the federal anti-trust law,” he said. “This is an industry which already has serious questions.”
