The International Atomic Energy Agency has censured Iran’s nuclear defiance on Friday. It is the first resolution of the IAEA on Iran since 2006.
UN diplomats say 25 of the 34 IAEA board nations present have voted for a resolution backed by the US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany.
The document criticizes the country’s refusal to agree the terms of the international community's proposal to ship its uranium abroad.
The resolution also condemns Iran for defying a UN Security Council ban on uranium enrichment that serves as a source of both nuclear fuel and the fissile core of warheads.
Moreover, the paper demands the immediate suspension of the building of an alleged uranium enrichment facility in Iran.
The resolution expresses “serious concern” that Iran may be hiding a military nuclear program and claims that the IAEA cannot prove that Tehran’s nuclear program is 100% peaceful.
Meanwhile, Iran says that the resolution may jeopardize ongoing nuclear talks.
The country’s representative in the IAEA Ali Asgar Soltaneih told in his exclusive interview to RT that the agency’s move comes as a big disappointment for Iran.
He said that the IAEA is just applying time delay tactics so as not to resolve the current situation.
“It is ridiculous because the time is more important for us because we need fuel,” he said. “If they are not cooperating with giving us fuel then we will have to find other options.”
