National Flip Flop Day: A celebration of bad shoes, worse politics

A day to honor the foot thongs known as flip flops turned into an airing of political grievances on Twitter. Between tweets thanking various shoe brands for their work against plantar fasciitis came criticisms of flip-flopping politicians.

Flip flops, a type of pseudo footwear ‒ which some monsters prefer to wear with socks ‒ are being celebrated. However, the term flip flop also refers to politicians and their tendencies to change their positions to earn more votes.

For many career politicians, National Flip Flop Day turned into a national roast of their previous choices. From Hillary Clinton’s stance on the Trans-Pacific Partnership to Donald Trump's ever changing stance on his debate partners, no one was safe.
