The Communist Party has been the main opposition to the sitting Russian authorities. Vladimir Semago, a former State Duma Deputy, explained what kind of people they are.
The expert says they're a far cry from the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. “They've had to adapt to the new world, to become part of the new political system. They used the brand because they thought they’ll go further by doing so.” The new parliament now needs to find a solution that would allow the Communists, the strongest opposition to the ruling United Russia party, to work as a shadow cabinet rather than an uncooperative obstruction.
