Fyodor Lukyanov, Editor-in-Chief of the “Russia in Global Affairs” magazine, spoke with Russia Today on the possibility for the Russia-U.S. and Russia-Europe relations to be discussed at the G8 summit.
Russia Today: As concerns the U.S. plans to deploy a missile shield in Europe and the verbal spat that has been observed between Russia and the West within the last couple of days, do you think the issue is threatening to overshadow the summit?Fyodor Lukyanov: I do not think so because G8 is a wrong platform to discuss it. The organisation was created 32 years ago to discuss global issues like financial stability, economic growth and so on. Since that time they have added a lot of global challenges, but never have they discussed things like strategic stability. Yes, Russia now has very difficult relations with the U.S., but I do not think they will discuss it just in Heiligendamm, because President Putin is going to the U.S. in two weeks.RT: What is Russia
