Georgia's breakaway republic votes for Russian Duma

Voters in Russia are not the only ones excited about Sunday parliamentary election. Many Russian citizens in Georgia's breakaway republic of Abkhazia will also vote at the eight polling booths set up there.

For the first time in years, Abkhazia is taking an active part in the Russian State Duma elections. And although this self-proclaimed republic formally remains a part of Georgia, the Abkhazians who chose Russian citizenship want their voice to be heard. When the polling booths in Abkhazia are closed the ballots will be treated like any others cast by Russian citizens abroad.
