Abkhazia is part of Georgia, but it has being trying to secure independence since the early 1990s. The Russian peacekeeping force is stationed in the area to maintain the ceasefire agreement between Georgians and Abkhazians. As many as 80% of the locals have Russian citizenship, which makes them eligible to vote in Sunday’s parliamentary election.
